The tree farm is located at 3000 feet on the crest of Cedar Ridge.  Feel free to explore across the nine acres. Wide intersecting walking paths and large trees surrounding the perimeter make it easy to navigate.

You deserve a great tree-cutting experience. At McBurney's you get to choose what that looks like. You can do it all yourself, or we'll be happy to assist you.

Grab a pole

Come by the main entrance and grab a white measuring pole. They're cut to a standard 8' ceiling and marked every foot to help you find just the right size.

Let us know you're ready

Flag down any one of our friendly staff to bring a saw and tree cart out for you. You're welcome to cut or if you prefer we'll do it for you.

Find your tree

All trees are individually priced on a white tag. What you see is what you pay. Sales tax and netting are included. Red tagged trees are reserved.

Find our cashiers in the sales shack. Don't forget the tree stand, wreaths, and any other tree care items you need.

Mark your tree

Once you've found "the one," lean the pole on your tree to mark your selection. Our guests are great about honoring a tree with pole on it.

We open the last weekend in September for reservations and typically begin cutting trees after Thanksgiving.

Many families enjoy the convenience of visiting us early to pick out their tree and return later to cut it down without worrying about finding the right one. This also ensures your tree is as fresh as possible for your holiday celebrations.

FAQ

  • When do you open for the season?
    The 2024 season opens on Saturday, September 28th. This year we are open on weekends before Thanksgiving 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. From Thanksgiving Day to Christmas Eve we are open daily 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. . Please see the calendar on our homepage for open hours and events.
  • Is there an entrance fee or parking fee?
    No, there is no cost for parking or entrance at McBurney's. Feel free to come out and enjoy the fresh air and a walk in the trees. Check out what we offer during the holidays for other offerings and costs.
  • What forms of payment do you accept?
    We accept cash and local checks.
  • Can I reserve a tree?
    Yes! We traditionally open the last weekend in September to begin taking reservations. Many families come out early to pick out their tree and return later in the season to enjoy the tradition of cutting it down without worrying about finding the right one. This also ensures your tree is as fresh as possible when you take it home. We typically start cutting trees around Thanksgiving.
  • When should I cut my tree so it lasts?
    We typically start cutting fresh trees Thanksgiving weekend. For the best longevity we recommend keeping it in water. Proper care will help ensure your tree remains fresh through the season.
  • Can I bring my dog? Do you allow pets?
    While we love pups and wish we could snuggle them all, we do not allow pets during our regular business hours. Our farm is small and for the enjoyment of all our guests, we ask you leave your pets at home. We find that families are better able to connect with each other in the tradition of finding a tree without the distraction of other people's dogs. For special circumstances or photography please contact us. Sign up for our newsletter to find out about special events and dog walking days.
  • Can I bring my own saw?
    We provide our traditional long-handled hand saws for you to cut your tree with. Unlike regular hand saws, they make easy reach trunk without having to crawl underneath the tree. Please kindly inform us upon arrival if you would like to use your own tools.
  • Do you have food or drinks available?
    On weekends during the holiday season we offer complimentary grape juice and coffee. See our event calendar for details and special events.
  • Do you close if it's raining or snowing?
    Except in extreme snow situations where we may have to delay opening until the paths are cleared, we are open rain or shine. We are located at in the beautiful Sierra foothills at about 3000' and often have different weather than the Sacramento Valley. See our homepage for current weather conditions. Plan ahead to bring your boots, umbrellas, jackets and gloves and enjoy the fun!
  • Do you allow photography or photo sessions?
    Yes! We love photography! You're welcome to capture as many of your own family pictures as you'd like during your visit. Our friendly staff can often help take a your picture with your tree.   • Do you offer field trips for schools?
    Yes, we offer tours for children organizations such as schools and day cares. Please contact us to discuss details.
